Quarter-finalists Bayern set Champions League record

German Champions Bayern Munich set a new Champions League aggregate victory record in the last 16 round after registering a 7-1 clean sweep over Sporting and qualifying for the next round.

The Bavarian giants thrashed the Lisbon-based side 5-0 in the first leg, which makes their aggregate win 12-1.

The previous aggregate record victory was established by Olympique Lyon when they outclassed Werder Bremen 3-0 away and 7-2 at home in the corresponding round of the 04-05 edition to set a 10-2 record.

In Tuesday's game, Lukas Podolski hit a brace on seven and 34 minutes, before Anderson Polga scored an own goal six minutes from half-time.

Joao Moutinho scored Sporting's sole goal on 42 minutes, and seconds later Bastian Schweinsteiger hit the fourth for Bayern.

In the second period, Mark van Bommel, Miroslav Klose and Thomas Muller completed the rout.
