Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka could face up to three weeks on the sidelines with a toe injury, the French Football Federation said.

The Premier League's top scorer returned to London after pulling out of Les Bleus squad for the weekend's qualifier with Lithuania.

Chelsea said they will reveal the extent of Anelka's injury upon the Frenchman's arrival at the team's training ground at Cobham.

The 30-year-old is likely to miss the crunch Champions League quarter-final clash with Liverpool on April 8th.

Anelka hit 15 Premiership for Chelsea so far this season, but his tally declined after Guus Hiddink's arrival as the Dutchman deploys him as a winger.
