According to AS, Atletico's current coach Abel Resino will be relived of his post if he can't guide the Madrid club to a top-four position in the Primera Liga.

AS also confirms that Atletico's major shareholder Gil Marin enjoys a very good relation with Schuster's representatives, which increases the German's chances of replacing Resino.

Resino was appointed as club coach following the sacking of Mexican tactician Javier Aguirre earlier in the season.

Los Colchoneros are currently fifth in the Spanish league table with 43 points, five points behind fourth-placed Villareal.

Schuster, who played for Atletico between 1990 and 1993, was sacked from his position as Real coach in December 2008, following a run of poor domestic results.
