Ahli playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika has traveled to Algeria in order to attend a ceremony that will be held by renowned newspaper Al-Hadaf to honor the 30-year-old.

The Egypt ace was named the best footballer in the Dark Continent by the readers of the Algerian publication that conducts an annual poll for Africa's best.

Ahli's official website announced that Abou-Treika flew to Algeria on Monday along with club board member Khaled Mortagi, and will return on Tuesday noon to rejoin training.

Algeria Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia is set to attend the prestigious ceremony.

Last month Abou-Treika won the 2008 Inter-CAF award, which is given to players plying their trade within Africa, whereas Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor was named the best African player of the year.
