Bolivia claimed a historic 6-1 home win over Argentina on Wednesday in a World Cup qualifier that witnessed the first defeat for the Tango Dancers under the management of Diego Maradona.

Striker Joaquin Botero bagged a hat-trick, while Marcelo Martins, Didi Torrico and Alex da Rosa completed the rout.

Lucho Gonzalez scored the consolation goal for the two-time world champions, who have suffered their worst defeat since their 5-0 home loss to Colombia in 1993.

Argentina's misery was widened when substitute Angel di Maria received his marching orders only seven minutes after being introduced.

Maradona's side are now second with 19 points, trailing leaders Paraguay by four points in the 10-team South American group.

Bolivia are in penultimate place with 12 points.

In the past few months, Maradona led Argentina to three victories in a row.
