Wael Gomaa is likely to end his career at Ahli after the club announced on Wednesday that he penned a two-year contract extension.

The combative defender's deal was due to expire in the summer but he opted to stay put.

"The club appreciates the hard work of Gomaa, who was eager to remain an Ahli player," the Egyptian champions said in a statement on their website.

Gomaa will now stay at Ahli until the summer of 2011.

The 33-year-old has been a revelation since joining the Red Devils from Ghazl Mahalla in 2001.

His solid displays at the back played a pivotal role in leading Ahli to a host of continental and local trophies.

Gomaa won with Ahli four Egyptian Premier League titles, four Champions League trophies, three Egyptian Cups, five domestic Super Cups and four African Super Cups.

Although Ahli's defense has been shaky this season, Gomaa still earned plaudits for a string of fine displays and managed to retain his place in Egypt's squad.
