Ittihad coach Taha Basri was transferred to the intensive care unit of Dar Al-Fouad hospital on the outskirts of Cairo.

The former Zamalek star suffered a sudden increase in blood pressure on Friday.

Basri has turned around Ittihad's fortunes since being appointed as the team's head coach in December 2007.

The Alexandria-based club, who used to battle against relegation during the past few years, have become a mid-table team under the guidance of Basri.

They lie sixth in the 16-team Egyptian Premier League table on 36 points with four matches left to play.
