Mido is still hopeful that Wigan could play in the UEFA Cup next season, despite the recent Premiership defeats.

The Latics slipped to 10th place after two devastating defeats to Everton and Arsenal in the past couple of weeks.

But Mido, who scored the only goal against the Gunners in the 4-1 loss at the weekend, believes his team still have a chance to make it to Europe.

"I believe we've got what it takes to finish in a European spot," the Egypt striker was quoted as saying by Wigan's official site.

"We've got good players, a great manager and fantastic supporters around us.

"We've lost our last two games, but they were against very good, in-form sides and now I want to ask the lads not to give up and keep going until the end of the season.

"We've got six games left now and we've got every chance to finish in that seventh spot."

Wigan are on course to reach their first-ever continental competition, which will go under the name 'Europa League' next season.

Positive Mentality

Mido stated the reasons behind his confident comments, even though the on-loan Middlesbrough forward's future at JJB is still unclear.

"We've got to have a positive mentality and give it 100% effort. There's one big push left and I think it's our most important period of the season" he said.

"We've got enough experience in that dressing room to know that without that final push it can make the whole year irrelevant.

"We've worked hard all season to get to this point and we need to remember that so we can guarantee European football next year, which would be a great achievement for everyone at the club."
