Arsenal qualified for the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League after thrashing Villarreal 3-0 on Wednesday in a one-sided game.

The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw a week ago, which makes the aggregate result 4-1 for the Premiership side.

Theo Walcott opened the scoring on 10 minutes after latching onto Cesc Fabregas' back-heeled assist, to go one-on-one with Diego Lopez and chip over his head with aplomb.

Emmanuel Adebayor hit the second on the hour mark from close range after being set up by Robin van Persie.

Dutchman Van Persie converted a spot-kick nine minutes later to complete the rout.

Arsene Wenger's men were clearly in charge for most of the game.

The visitors revitalized early after the interval, but they ran out of tricks after Adebayor's goal.

Villarreal were also disqualified by Arsenal from the elite competition in 2006.

Arsenal will take on arch-rivals Manchester United, who beat Porto 3-2 on aggregate, in the next round.
