With Ashley Cole suspended and Paulo Ferreira, who can play on both flanks, out through injury, Hiddink will have no alternative but to field Bosingwa as a left back in Tuesday's clash.
"Everyone knows we don't have a natural replacement for the left-back position so we have to improvise," the Russian coach was quoted as saying by Sky Sports on Saturday.
"So Bosingwa will start there, although he doesn't know that yet.
"I decided Bosingwa would play the moment Ashley was booked in the quarter-final against Liverpool."
Messi has been in sparkling attacking form this season. He is the current Champions League's top scorer with eight goals.
"Whoever plays against Messi has a tremendously difficult job to do," Hiddink added.
"Messi is one of the most productive players in the world when he's performing."
