Chelsea players were furious with referee

Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa hit out at Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo, who judged the Blues' UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona.

Ovrebo waved away Chelsea's claims for two penalty-kicks during the game. The official also sent off Barca's Eric Abidal for an alleged tackle on striker Nicolas Anelka.

"The referee was bought. I don't know if he is a referee or a thief. There are no words to describe the person that was on the pitch here," Bosingwa told RTP after the game.

"There is nothing to say about Barcelona's goal, but there were penalties that were not awarded. This official should never referee again."

After holding out to a 0-0 draw in the first leg, Mikael Essien scored for Chelsea early at Stamford Bridge, before an injury-time strike denied the Londoners a place in the final.

Terry Reaction

Chelsea vice-captain John Terry echoed his Portuguese teammate's comments, saying that the referee ruined the hard work they produced over the two legs.

"For 93 minutes they didn't have a chance. We maybe should have killed the game off, but if we get one of those penalties and go 2-0 up, we're cruising," Terry said.

"Six decisions went against us in front of 40,000 people. And for the ref to not give one of them is unusual.

"It's not surprising for us to come off the field and show that emotion."

Number of Chelsea players including striker Didier Drogba were seen strongly confronting Ovrebo after the game.
