However, the Italian international showed his real toughness by returning to full fitness one month ahead of schedule.

"Yes, Gattuso will be called up for this game," Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed.

"He’ll be on the bench and if he is needed, then he can give his contribution to the team."

The former Glasgow Rangers man will now be ready to participate with his country in the FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa in June.

The Azzuri enter the competition as world champions, and are drawn in Group B alongside Brazil, Egypt and the United States.
