SK Lierse midfielder Mohamed Abdul-Wahed said that he fears his team's long season might affect their chances of promotion to the Belgian Jupiler League.

The second division side recently drew 1-1 away at Waasland in a preliminary play-off, which will qualify them to another play-off before earning promotion.

"We are doing our best and will be striving to gain promotion," the Egyptian told the club's official website.

"But I'm afraid that the long season we had in the league and cup will have a negative effect on the players' fitness."

The former Zamalek man, who scored Lierse's only goal of the game at Waasland, said that the 1-1 result should make it easier for his team in the second-leg.

"All we need now is not to conceded at home," he added.

Lierse were drawn against Waasland after they finished the second division in second place.

The second division winner directly qualify for the Jupiler League while teams from the second to the fifth places enter promotion play-offs.
