The Ismaili regular picked up the injury in the 1-0 win at Egypt Telecom only 10 minutes after the kick-off, and thus was stretchered off in agony.
The coastal club announced later on the same day that Gamal will be out of action for a lengthy spell, as his injury turned out to be quite serious.
"Omar Gamal picked up a harsh knee injury," Ismaili medical staff member Magdi Al-Baz told FilGoal.com.
"According to an initial diagnosis, either his knee cartilage or cruciate ligament got damaged."
In both cases, the 27-year-old will be sidelined for at least one month and will take no part in Ismaili's last league game against Tersana.
Gamal is yet to have further medical examinations to determine the full extent of the injury.
On top of that, Mohamed Mohsen Abou-Greisha, who hit the winner for Ismaili in Monday's match, has been ruled out of the Dervishes' upcoming game after collecting his third caution.
Ismaili are in second place with 60 points, only several goals behind leaders and defending champions Ahli.
Both sides have one remaining match each, and they will meet in a decisive play-off if they remain level on points till the end of the term.
