Real Madrid coach Juande Ramos believes he achieved his target although his side missed out on winning the Primera Liga title.

Barcelona have all but won the league as they enjoy an eight-point advantage over arch-rivals Real with three matches remaining.

Spanish coach Ramos, who took over at Real in December last year following the sacking of Bernd Schuster, is proud of the work he has done though.

"My goal when I signed was to reach next season's Champions League, and we did that early on," he told a press conference on Friday.

"I am proud of the numbers we've earned and of achieving the goal so early on.

"Real Madrid were fifth and worried about not qualifying for the Champions League next year when we arrived. We were sixth after the match in Barcelona.

"I think in that respect the Club is happy with the job we've done."

Under Ramos, Real produced better results than Barcelona in the league's second half but the Catalans still had the upper hand, especially after thrashing their traditional foes 6-2 in El Clasico.

"Real Madrid have had a great season; we would have won the title in any other edition of the championship, but Barcelona have played better than us," the former Tottenham coach added.
