Sion have claimed the Swiss Cup title after registering a hard-fought 3-2 win over Young Boys in the final on Wednesday, while goalie Essam Al-Hadari played a major part in the triumph.

Sion came from behind to cancel out Young Boys' two-goal lead, before hitting a late winner to seal the victory.

Egypt custodian Al-Hadari was not to blame for the couple of goals he conceded, and he managed to prevent the hosts more than once from scoring.

The 36-year-old shot-stopper cheered Sion's spectators with his famous victory dance while sitting on the crossbar, like he used to celebrate wins with his former club Ahli.

He then waved the flag of Egypt in a lap of honor around the pitch.

Screamer

Young Boys opened the scoring when Gilles Yapi converted a spot kick on 22 minutes.

Their lead was doubled with an own-goal by Sion's Moroccan defender Jamal Alioui seven minutes after the half-hour mark.

Goran Obradovic reduced the arrears for the away side on 41 minutes and Stephane Sarni notched an equalizer 11 minutes later.

When the game seemed to be taken to extra time, Guilherme Afonso netted a screamer two minutes from time to give Sion the trophy.

The match was expected to end differently, given that Young Boys had the home advantage and their head-to-head record with Sion clearly indicates their superiority.

Young Boys defeated Sion seven times out eight in their previous meetings.

Sion's last win at Young Boys was in 1997.
