Petrojet coach Mokhtar Mokhtar resigned from his post on Thursday, pointing to a lack of trust between him and the club's board.

Mokhtar's sudden announcement came few hours after Petrojet qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in their history.

"It is the suitable time for me to step down," Mokhtar told a new conference after his side claimed a precious 3-2 victory over ENPPI on Thursday.

"Petrojet board did not trust me. They held negotiations with other coaches like Hossam Al-Badri and Mohsen Saleh while I was still in charge of the team.

"I made an achievement with Petrojet by leading them to a third-place finish. I'm content with what I have done throughout my stay."

Mokhtar led the Petroleum club to Premier League promotion in 2006 and the team have made notable progress since then.

Petrojet finished seventh in their first season in the top flight and occupied fourth berth the following term.

This season, they booked a historic Confederation Cup place after beating off competition from ENPPI.
