Zamalek legend Hazem Emam said he would initiate a plan to launch a satellite channel for the club if he was elected as a board member.

"The club needs a TV channel to defend its interests," Emam, who retired from professional football last summer, told a news conference on Friday.

"Everybody attacks Zamalek now, so we need to respond."

Former Zamalek playmaker Emam has been working as a TV presenter since hanging up his boots.

He hopes the Cairo giants could follow in the footsteps of arch-rivals Ahli, who were the first Egyptian club to launch a satellite channel.

"We have many Zamalek icons whom we can rely on to deliver our messages on the club's channel, just like what Ahli did," Emam added.

The 34-year-old, who supports presidential candidate Mamdouh Abbas, will stand for election to Zamalek board on May 29th.
