Wolfsburg clinched their first ever Bundesliga title after thrashing Werder Bremen 5-1 on Saturday to finish on top with 69 points.

Felix Magath's side needed just a draw to wrap up the title as they had better goal difference than Bayern Munich and Stuttgart, who were in joint second place.

Holders Bayern, who were two points behind Wolfsburg, claimed a 2-1 victory over Stuttgart to acquire the second automatic Champions League spot.

Stuttgart will play in the Champions League qualifiers while Hertha Berlin and Hamburg SV earned a Europa League spot.

Mohamed Zidan's Dortmund missed out on an automatic place in Europe's secondary competition after being held to a 1-1 draw by Borussia Monchengladbach.

Arminia Bielfeld and Karlsruhe were relegated while third-bottom Energie Cottbus will play a relegation play-off with the third best team of the second division.

Prosperous Partnership

At Volkswagen Arena, Wolfsburg found no difficulty in brushing aside UEFA Cup finalists Bremen after being helped by the heroics of in-form strike duo Grafite and Edin Dzeko.

The hosts were three up by the 26th minute, thanks to goals from Zvjezdan Misimovic, Grafite and an own goal from Sebastian Proedl.

Bremen pulled one back through Brazilian playmaker Diego, who is likely to join Juventus, but two goals from Grafite and Dzeko ensured Wolfsburg's victory.

Brazilian Grafite finished as the league's top scorer with 28 goals, two ahead of teammate Dzeko.
