The players are asking Mokhtar to retreat his decision from one side, and calling for the board to convince the former Ahli star to stay at the club from another.
Mokhtar stepped down from his position right after Petrojet's final league game against ENPPI last week, saying that he felt unwanted by the board.
"Petrojet have witnessed their best ever moments under Mokhtar's guidance," said club captain Hesham Al-Noubi.
"We all want Mokhtar to stay at the club. We as players and as a team have developed a lot with him," adds midfielder Mahmoud Abdul-Hakim.
Mokhtar led Petrojet to their best ever Premier League finish this season, as the Suez-based club ended their campaign in third position behind Ahli and Ismaili.
