فلورنتينو بيريز تحول إلى فابيانو مارتينيز

Florentino Perez has been officially re-appointed as Real Madrid chairman, after he became the only presidential candidate in the elections that have been cancelled.

Los Merengues' official website announced that Perez has been automatically reinstated, after the deadline to submit the required documents to run for presidency passed and no one else applied.

The 62-year-old's first tenure at Real started in 2000, during which he brought in a good number of superstars, including David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo.

He stepped down in 2006 after a long title drought, although the team boasted a host of high-profile players at the time.

Perez's main concern was to make big profits from signing famous players irrespective of the team's actual needs, pundits believe.

Apparently, he's not planning to change his free-spending policy.

In the past few weeks, he vowed to run the rule over Brazil ace Kaka, Manchester United virtuoso Cristiano Ronaldo and France winger Franck Ribery.

He's also believed to be interested in signing Spain trio David Villa, David Silva and Xabi Alonso.

Zidane and Valdano

Meanwhile, Real announced that former star Zinedine Zidane will be appointed as Perez's adviser, whereas Jorge Valdano was named director general and assistant to the president.

Former Argentina forward Valdano was the club's sporting director during Perez's previous stint. Miguel Pardeza suceeds Predrag Mijatovic for the role.
