Mascherano's agent Walter Tamer said on Tuesday that a summer move to Barcelona appeals to his client, should the European champions make him an offer.

But Benitez ruled out the possibility of letting the 25-year-old leave Anfield in the close season.

"Mascherano has no price," the Spaniard told the club's official website. "Barcelona could not afford to match his value to Liverpool football club."

Benitez also assured that Mascherano has no intention of moving away from the Reds for the time being.

"We do not want to sell and Javier is very happy here," he added.

"I have spoken to Javier two or three times this summer - the last time was only last week - and he was very happy, very positive."
