Brazil have retained their position on top of the South American World Cup qualifying table with a 2-1 home win over Paraguay.

Salvador Cabanas gave Paraguay an unexpected lead in Recife, but Robinho put Brazil back on level terms before half time.

Internacional striker Nilmar scored the winner shortly after the break to wrap up the victory for Dunga's team.

Brazil need just three points from their next four games as they lie top of the 10-team table with 27 points, Paraguay are third on 24.

Elsewhere, Argentina were outclassed 2-0 by Ecuador in Quito, courtesy of goals from Marlon Ayovi and Pablo Palacios.

Argentina are fourth with 24 points, four ahead of fifth-placed Ecuador.
