The Portuguese has been eyed by fellow countryman and Inter coach Jose Mourinho for sometime, and it seems that Carvalho will be heading to San Siro in the near future.
"Mourinho has asked us for Carvalho and we are working towards making him happy," Moratti told Gazetta dello Sport.
"We still haven't reached an agreement with Chelsea but I think we will do in a short time."
The Nerrazzuri were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League last 16 round for the third consecutive year, and Moratti is hoping that Carvalho can help them break their European jinx.
"We are interested in Carvalho primarily for the Champions League.
"He has the right experience. He is calm under pressure and brings experience in the defensive line," Moratti added.
Carvalho, who joined Chelsea in 2004, previously worked with Mourinho at both the London club and at FC Porto.
