After the inaugural game between South Africa and Iraq ended in a 0-0 draw, European champions Spain showed their class by totally dominating New Zealand.
"We expected to win, but not by five goals. It is always a pleasure to play with team-mates like Xavi and David Villa, who have such massive quality," Torres said.
While the Liverpool man hit the back of the net three times, Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas and Valencia's Villa added Spain's two other strikes.
"This is my second hat-trick for Spain and it makes me very proud.
"It was a great start for the team. Personally the three goals have come at a great time. Starting with goals is always good and three is even better," he added.
On the other side New Zealand's Tim Brown conceded that his team didn’t work hard enough to salvage anything from the game.
"We allowed the Spaniards to move freely. We gave them too much space and we had to pay the price for it," Brown said after the game.
Spain are currently top of Group A with three points, two more than South Africa and Iraq, who are second and fourth with both having one point. New Zealand are fourth.
