Fathi doubtful for US tie

Egypt could lose Ahmed Fathi and Mohamed Shawky against the United States after both players sustained injuries during the stunning 1-0 victory over Italy on Thursday.

In-form right back Ahmed Fathi sprained a knee ligament that could rule him out of Sunday's clash. He was replaced with skipper Ahmed Hassan in the second half.

He will undergo medical tests to determine the full extent of the injury and to find out whether he can recover in time for the crucial game.

Defensive midfielder Shawky could also sit out the match after picking up an ankle injury.

The Middlesbrough man completed the game despite suffering the complaint midway through the second half.

Egypt claimed their first ever victory over a European side, and their first overall, in FIFA tournaments after defeating world champions Italy in the Confederations Cup.
