USA put up an uphill fight

USA skipper Landon Donovan conceded that Brazil deserved to claim the FIFA Confederations Cup title for the second time in a row.

The Samba Dancers came back from two goals down to beat the Americans 3-2 in an eventful final on Sunday.

Although he was depressed after the game, talented forward Donovan paid tribute to the five-time world champions.

"We're disappointed. At the end of the day there's a reason why Brazil are consistently considered one of the best teams in the world," he told FIFA's official website.

"But in the situation we were in, up 2-0 at the half, we felt that we should have been able to kill off the game.

"We can't be happy with having gone this far. If we want to get better we have to demand more of ourselves."

Brazil captain Lucio hit the winner in the 84th minute after Luis Fabiano inspired Brazil with a second-half brace.

Clint Dempsey and Donovan scored for USA respectively in the first period.
