A huge number of construction workers in South Africa have refused to carry on their work on stadiums of the 2010 World Cup in protest over their wages.

Widespread reports stated that around 70,000 workers went on an indefinite strike as they demand a 13% wage increase.

South Africa are currently in the process of building six new stadiums, in addition to the development of another four.

Should the strike continue for months, South Africa's hosting to the World Cup will be jeopardized, organizers believe.

Apart from venues, South Africa is already facing a number of challenges ahead of next year's big event, which be staged in the Dark Continent for the first time.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has repeatedly showed confidence in South Africa's ability to host the World Cup, despite the genuine doubts.
