Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta conceded that his club's interest in Cesc Fabregas has increased of late because their overtures to Franck Ribery were turned down.

Bayern Munich have announced on numerous occasions that their hotshot Ribery is not for sale, even so, a good number of European powerhouses approached him this summer.

Barcelona were among Ribery's prominent suitors, but when the Bavarians insisted to keep hold of their France superstar, the Catalans started to consider other options.

Last week, Laporta stated that he wants to purchase Arsenal skipper and former Barca prodigy Fabregas.

Later on, he revealed that the Spanish midfielder has been mooted as the next arrival to Nou Camp for the European champions' failure to land Ribery.

"Ribery was a player we were interested in at a logical price but Bayern don't want to sell," Laporta told Spanish TV.

"If they are interested in selling, we are interested in buying but if not, then we will look to Fabregas.

"Compared to him there is no available alternative left in the market, so we will see what happens.

"But after last season we only need small adjustments - a left-back, a central defender, a midfielder and a forward."

Real Madrid and Liverpool are also interested in the services of Ribery, who had previously admitted his desire to join the former.

Fabregas is also topping the wish list of Real, who have adopted a free-spending policy since the re-appointment of Florentino Perez as the club's president.
