Gamal Hamza had a hand in Mainz's only goal as they slumped to a 4-1 defeat to Burghausen in a pre-season friendly game.

The Egyptian forward, who joined the German side for his first European adventure after his contract with Zamalek expired, came on as a second-half substitute.

He made his presence felt just eight minutes into his introduction, winning a penalty after being brought down inside the area.

Serbian striker Srdjan Baljak stepped up to convert the penalty and give Mainz the lead.

Burghausen, who play in the German league third division, stormed back to score four goals and overturn the deficit.

Hamza, who recovered from a knee injury to make his second appearance with Mainz, could have scored ten minutes from time but his fierce drive went just wide of the post.

The 28-year-old scored on his debut when Mainz overwhelmed minnows Budenheim 10-1 early this month.
