The Egyptian player joined the Bundesliga side last month on a free transfer after his deal with Zamalek ran out.
Hamza assured that the new adventure, his first away from homeland, has been promising thus far, but couldn't deny missing his family.
"This is all very good. But of course I miss my family," the 28-year-old, father of two girls, was quoted by Allgemeine Zeitung as saying.
On the other hand, Mainz coach Jorn Andersen believes that Hamza will need some time to settle down.
"In Egypt, he was a star. The change is certainly not so easy for him," Andersen stated.
