Middlesbrough coach Gareth Southgate admitted on Thursday that Mido was likely to leave the club in the close season.

The Egyptian striker has made no secret of his desire to leave Boro following their relegation to the Championship, the second division in England's football league system.

He looks on his way out of the Riverside along with Turkish striker Tuncay Sanli.

"We know that Mido would like to move on in an ideal world - as would Tuncay - and I'm sure those deals will happen," Southgate told Northern Echo.

"But that doesn't take care of itself. It is something I have to deal with, but while I'm here, my focus is on the players who have come on this trip."

Mido was fined by Middlesbrough for his failure to report back for pre-season training on time.

Zamalek, his former club, said recently they considered bringing him back to Cairo on a season-long loan.

It remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old – who also had spells with Roma, Marseille, Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax Amsterdam – will be interested in cutting off his European adventure to play in the Egyptian Premier League.
