Daily AS confirmed that Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow met with Real executive director Jose Angel Sanchez in Barcelona, where the Reds played Espanyol.
"It's reassuring to know that Madrid and Liverpool are talking seriously now," Alonso told the Spanish paper.
"I decided a long time ago to stay on the margin of everything that was happening.
"My stance has been clear, as you all know. I'm a professional and I must wait for an agreement to be reached, but I hope it is resolved soon, for better or for worse."
Real are still far away from striking a deal with Liverpool though as the latter are asking for €35million for Alonso, whereas Los Merengues have offered €30million.
Alonso, who is a key member of Rafa Benitez's team, has reportedly handed in a transfer request over the weekend.
