AC Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo said that he rejected a move to Chelsea in order to stay and win another scudetto title for the Rossoneri.

Former Milan and current Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti was hoping he could be rejoined with the Italian international, but Pirlo rejected the former's offer to join the Blues.

"The reason was very simple – I wanted to stay at Milan and never asked to leave," Pirlo told Gazetta dello Sport.

"If I thought Milan’s objective was just a decent placement, I would be at Chelsea right now. I want to win. I am convinced it is possible to win the league.

"I knew there was an important offer on the table from Chelsea, and my agent kept me up to date, but I did not spend the summer glued to the telephone."

The 30-year-old looked all but out of Milan at some part of the negotiations, and Pirlo admitted that Ancelotti didn’t take it lightly when the deal was called off.

"Ancelotti was disappointed, but he understood.

Pirlo has already won one Serie A title and two UEFA Champions League trophies since he joined the club in 2001.
