Villarreal playmaker Roberto Pires said on Friday he was not contemplating retirement.

The 35-year-old still has a year to run on his contract with the Spanish outfit, whom he joined from English side Arsenal in the summer of 2006.

He intends to carry on his adventure with Villarreal and eyes an ambassador role at the club when he decides to hang up his boots.

"I consider myself a survivor. I feel fine both physically and mentally. I am in no rush to stop my career," Pires told Le 10 Sport.

"The chairman has a project. After my career, I could represent the club abroad or during draws for competitions. I could embody its image notably to meet the players."

Pires has been an integral member of Villarreal's squad during the past three years.

He played against his former club Arsenal last year when Villarreal met the Gunners in the Champions League quarter final.

"My comeback at Arsenal? I still have shivers thinking about it," the former French international said.

"I know English fans have good memories. But it was beyond everything. They gave me ovation before, during and after the match.

"All match long, while Arsenal played at home, I heard the stadium chanting my name. I almost had tears in my eyes. I will never forget."
