Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic said he was thrilled to score after nearly two months on the sidelines as his side kept their Champions League hopes alive.

Olic notched the only goal of the night to give the Bavarians 1-0 victory over Maccabi Haifa while Juventus lost to Bordeaux 2-0 in Group A on Wednesday.

"I had a serious injury and I've been out for seven weeks," the Croatian international was quoted as saying by Bayern's website.

"I'm thrilled, because it was my first start since then, I've scored, and we've won."

Bayern are now in third spot on seven points, one point behind second-placed Juventus, with the two giants clashing in the final game of the group in Italy.

Although Juventus need only to draw at home to reach the knockout stages, Olic is optimistic over his side's chances.

"We've won and I think we're heading in the right direction," he said.

"It was a deserved victory. Now I hope we can go on and win all our matches before Christmas."
