Diego Milito converted a spot kick five minutes from time to earn Inter Milan a 1-0 home win over Fiorentina in the Serie A at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday.

Argentina striker Milito was brought down in the area to win a deserved penalty-kick and make amenders for spurning a clear-cut chance earlier in the game.

Having won the match, leaders Inter extended their lead to eight points.

Walter Samuel had a goal disallowed in the second period for shirt tugging.

At the other end, Alberto Gilardino wasted Fiorentina's only chance when his shot hit the post.

Inter striker Samuel Eto'o was once again out of form. he spurned a late one-on-one with keeper Sebastien Frey.

Elsewhere, Second-placed Juventus lost 2-0 at Cagliari, although they controlled the game for a quite a while.

Nene put the hosts upfront with a powerful shot from outside the area shortly after the half-hour mark, while Alessandro Matri completed the rout with a late strike.
