• Recalled to the Egyptian team at 39 to take part in the 2006 African Cup of Nations, scoring once and making two assists en route to the title
• Played for Tersana in 2006-2007
• Played for Ittihad Alexandria in the first half of the 2007-2008 season
• Retired in the middle of the season to take over as Masri manager in a controversial move
• Sacked as Masri manager midway through the 2008-2009 season before taking over as Telecom Egypt coach
• Resigned in October 2009 before being appointed as Zamalek manager late in November
