TP Mazembe of DR Congo threw away their lead to lose 2-1 to Asian champions Pohang Steelers and miss out on a place in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final.

The African champions took a 28th-minute lead through a sublime long-range drive from Mbenza Bedi.

Lively Brazilian striker Denilson restored parity five minutes after the break with a free header at the back post.

The 33-year-old sealed Pohang's victory with 12 minutes remaining when he beat the offside trap and slot home from inside the area.

Pohang will now face South American champions Estudiantes in the semi final of the annual tournament which is taking place in the United Arab Emirates.

The losers of Saturday's other quarter-final game between Auckland City and Atlante will play Mazembe in the fifth-place playoff.
