Barcelona president Joan Laporta stated that the Catalans sought to run the rule over Manchester City forward Robinho, but the Premiership outfit turned down their overtures.

Brazilian ace Robinho has been tipped to join the Spanish giants since last summer, and many reports suggested that the deal would be wrapped up in January.

Laporta confirmed that Barca approached the 25-year-old, but said their bid was eventually rejected.

"We are pleased with our squad and if we have to do some fine-tuning we will," he was quoted by Sport as saying.

"Our offer for Robinho was not accepted and this team we have will not be added to, unless something unforeseen arises at the last minute."
