Juventus said they have no intention of recalling Mali midfielder Mohamed Sissoko from the African Cup of Nations but hinted that their stance could be changed if further security worries arose in Angola.

Gunmen opened fire on Togo's bus in the Angolan enclave of Cabinda on Friday to kill several members of the team's delegation.

Togo are unlikely to take part in the tournament after their government insisted the team would return home following the unfortunate incident.

Many European clubs expressed their concerns over the situation but Juventus said they would not try to bring Sissoko to Turin, at least for the meantime.

"Juventus do not for the moment intend to put pressure on Mali or Sissoko for the player's anticipated return from the Africa Cup of Nations," the Italian club said in a statement.

“We will continue to constantly monitor Sissoko's situation. That is both for his safety and his physical condition, as he is recovering from an injury."

Sissoko's Mali open their Nations Cup campaign against hosts Angola in the tournament's opener on Sunday.
