CAN opening ceremony held amidst tight security

The African Cup of Nations (CAN) opening ceremony was held at November 11th Stadium, where the security measures were notably stepped up.

The African Cup of Nations (CAN) opening ceremony was held at November 11th Stadium, where the security measures were notably stepped up.

The Angolan authorities were keen to enhance security after Togo's national team were viciously attacked, which result in the death of three people.

The spectators at November 11th Stadium were few during the show which lasted for around 16 minutes. CAF president Issa Hayatou attended the ceremony.

The ceremony included some impressive fireworks and exotic dances, as well as a brief speech from Angolan president Jose Eduardo dos Santos.

The biennial competition will last till January 31st. Hosts Angola will play the competition curtain-raiser against Mali.
