The Bavarians scraped to a 2-1 first-leg victory over the ten-man Fiorentina, thanks to a last-gasp strike by Miroslav Klose, who was clearly offside.

"We finally put it in the net at the end, but it was clearly offside, so we’ve been a bit lucky," Van Gaal said after the match in Munich.

"We’re a goal ahead. It’ll be difficult in Florence, but we have a fifty-fifty chance, or maybe just a little more than that."

The second leg of the last 16 tie will take place in Florence on March 9th.
