Zamalek football director Ibrahim Hassan says the White Knights are lining up a bid for Ahli striker Emad Meteb this summer.

The Egypt international stated last month that he would move away from the Red Devils in the close season, when his contract runs out.

Fulham, Genoa and Kayserispor are understood to be seeking to land Meteb on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old stressed that he would only leave Ahli to ply his trade at a European side, saying he would turn down any overtures from Egyptian clubs.

But Zamalek revealed their interest in Meteb anyway.

“We will wait till the end of the season. If Meteb doesn’t extend his Ahli stay, then he really wants to depart,” Hassan said. “In that case we will table an offer.”

Meteb was close to completing a £1.5 million move to Bristol in 2008 but the deal eventually fell through.

The English Championship outfit terminated their agreement with Meteb after he featured in an Ahli CAF Champions League game.

His participation was regarded as a contractual breach at the time and Bristol backed out of the deal. He shortly afterwards joined Ittihad Jeddah on a year-long loan.
