Bayern Munich advanced to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after losing 3-2 at Fiorentina on Tuesday in a pulsating match.

The Bavarians, who won the round of 16 first leg 2-1 at Allianz Arena, qualified on the away-goal rule after the aggregate result became 4-4.

The wind was phenomenally strong throughout the game. It was in the direction of Fiorentina's goal in the first period and the other way around after the interval.

Fiorentina's Juan Manuel Vargas opened the scoring two minutes from the half-hour mark with a close-range effort from an acute angle.

Stevan Jovetic doubled the hosts' lead on 54 minutes after being set up inside the area, thanks to a brilliant Alberto Gilardino back-heel assist.

Mark van Bommel pulled one back for Bayern on the hour mark with a precise low shot from outside the area.

But Jovetic regained Fiorentina's two-goal cushion on 64 minutes after going one-on-one with the keeper to flick the ball between his legs and into the net.

But seconds later, Arjen Robben netted a precious goal for the German giants upon unleashing a fierce long-range drive.
