Zamalek duo Hazem Emam and Alaa Ali have been banned for eight and three games respectively for their tantrum in Wednesday's league game against Police Union, the Egyptian FA said on Thursday.

Diminutive wing-back Emam, back in Zamalek fold after some disciplinary problems, failed to display a calm demeanor in his first match after being reprieved by coach Hossam Hassan.

He came on as a second-half substitute in Zamalek's 1-1 draw at home to Police but was red-carded by referee Tawfik Al-Sayed with two minutes remaining before the end of regular time.

Al-Sayed initially booked him for protesting against one of his decisions but the latter retaliated, stealing the card from the official's grasp and throwing it away.

He consequently received his marching orders before bursting into tears while on his way out of the pitch.

"Emam will be suspended for eight matches and fined EGP 8,000 for trying to physically abuse the referee," the EFA said in a statement on their official website.

Playmaker Ali was seen running after a Police technical staff member after the game.

"Ali will be suspended for three matches and fined EGP 3,000 for assaulting one of Police coaching staff members," the EFA added.

Both players will miss Zamalek's Cairo derby against arch-rivals and league leaders Ahli on April 16.

Thanks Hossam

Zamalek's de facto football director Ibrahim Hassan was also involved in some ugly scenes after Al-Sayed blew the final whistle following 17 minutes of additional time.

He was seen chasing and beating Police assistant coach Mohamed Ibrahim before being separated by his twin brother Hossam Hassan, Zamalek's head coach, and security personnel.

"Ibrahim Hassan will not be able to attend Zamalek matches until the end of the season," the EFA said.

"The EFA wish to thank Hossam Hassan for his efforts to calm down the situation."

Zamalek were also fined EGP 50,000 after their fans threw stones and bottles onto the pitch, prompting Al-Sayed to stop the match for around 15 minutes.

The Cairo giants were due to hold a press conference on Thursday to make an official comment over the matter but called it off 'in order not to disrupt the team's preparations for their next league games against Harras Hodoud and Ahli'.

EFA chairman Samir Zaher vowed on Wednesday to come down hard on 'whomever responsible for the incidents that followed the ill-tempered match'.
