Germany name provisional World Cup squad

Germany manager Joachim Loew has named 27 players in his provisional squad for the 2010 World Cup.

The list included the names of uncapped duo Holger Badstuber (Bayern Munich) and Dennis Aogo (Hamburg).

"We specifically picked younger players. They may be short on experience but they have a lot of qualities," Loew said at a news conference in Stuttgart.

In addition to Badstuber, six other players from Champions League finalists Bayern were selected, most notably 35-year-old keeper Hans-Jorg Butt, who replaces the injured Rene Adler.

There was no place for Christoph Metzelder, Thorsten Frings and Kevin Kuranyi, whereas the Brazilian-born Cacau has joined in.

Germany provisional squad:

Goalkeepers: Hans-Jorg Butt, Manuel Neuer, Tim Wiese

Defenders: Per Mertesacker, Heiko Westermann, Philipp Lahm, Jerome Boateng, Andrea Beck, Arne Friedrich, Serdar Tasci, Marcell Jansen, Holger Badstuber, Dennis Aogo.

Midfielders: Michael Ballack, Sami Khedira, Piotr Trochowski, Marko Marin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Christian Trasch, Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos.

Strikers: Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose, Stefan Kiessling, Cacau, Thomas Muller, Mario Gomez.
