"My agent Tamer Al-Nahas informed me of Ahli's intent to sign me ahead of next season," he told FilGoal.com.
"I asked them to postpone the negotiations till after the season, so as I don't get distracted while Masri are struggling to stay in the Egyptian Premier League.
"I really want this deal to go through but I won't leave unless both clubs reach an agreement."
With Ahmed Fathi on the sidelines through injury and Ahmed Ali out of form, Ahli coach Hossam Al-Badri tends to play defender Sherif Abdul-Fadil as a right back.
Fawzi has been quite impressive since joining Masri when Hossam Hassan, who's now in charge of Zamalek, was at the Port Said side's helm.
The 26-year-old still has one season on his Masri contract, which includes a one-million release clause.
FilGoal.com understands that Ahli want to sign Fawzi on a part-exchange deal in the summer.
