Germany and Chelsea ace Michael Ballack sustained an ankle injury in the Blues' 1-0 win over Portsmouth on Saturday and his participation in the imminent World Cup is yet to be confirmed.

The 33-year-old was aggressively tackled by Kevin-Prince Boateng during the FA final to pick up the injury. He was taken off minutes later before the interval.

Ballack will undergo medical tests to know whether or not he will be able to play at the World Cup but the veteran midfielder sounds optimistic.

"It's not that good at the moment, but I have to wait until Sunday for the scan and then we will know more," he said.

"Hopefully I can play (against Australia) but as you know I went off and couldn't carry on, but it's not that bad."

Boateng was yellow-carded for his challenge on Ballack, who insinuated that a dismissal would have been a more appropriate reaction from the referee.

"It's not good in football when that happens and nobody wants to see it," the Former Bayern Munich star stated.

"He got away with a yellow and was lucky."
