Ghana and Portsmouth midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng offered an apology to Michael Ballack after his tackle forced the Germany captain out of the World Cup.

Boateng made an imprudent challenge against the Chelsea midfielder in the weekend's FA Cup final, causing an ankle ligament damage to the 33-year-old.

"I am sorry. It was not intentional. I just came in too late and made full contact. It looks pretty stupid," Boateng told Bild.

Ironically, Germany will face Ghana in South Africa, competing in Group D which also includes Australia and Serbia.
